The annual pumpkin cutting event! Each year my Dad grows a few (quite a few) pumpkins and then the week of Halloween we all meet over to their house, Grandma & Grandpa's, to pick our pumpkins and de-gut them and cut them into jack-o-lanterns!

We had quite a good turn out this year. Most families (of my 5 brothers and sisters) were represented, except for the Chamberlain family - I guess they think a 12 hour drive one way is a little much for pumpkin cutting! We will excuse them from this event. I just hope that my sister, Heather, doesn't deprive her children of having their own pumpkin cutting. Just kidding Heather... but did you?
There are always the artistic pumpkin-cutters - that actually plan out what and where they are going to cut before sticking in the blade. My sister, Lesa, shown above with her pumpkin, is definitely one of those.

My brother-in-law, Dale, is also one of those. I would never have the patience to do the pumpkin that he did... His daughter, Valerie, was in Salt Lake visiting a friend so she was unable to make it, but she asked him to do a Twilight Pumpkin for her. I thought that was a pretty nice Dad to do that - I think this was worth raking the leaves or shoveling snow at least 5 times! What a good Dad! I hope she liked it... she better have loved it!

My sister, Amy's, pumpkin was very artistic and non-traditional. It was pretty clever and looked really neat when it was lit.

Then there are the pumpkin-cutters, like myself, who just go for it... why would I take the time to plan out how I want a pumpkin to look! I just let the pumpkin take the knife in the direction that it wants it to go... I don't think we did too bad of a job on Dallon's pumpkin! He seemed happy and that's all that counts!

Then there are the pumpkin-cutters, like my Mother, who has done this for, oh let's say 60 + years, and they would rather that someone else just do it for them! They have experienced pumpkin cutting enough... The actual pumpkin cutter for this pumpkin was my sister, Lesa, who is standing in the background. Sorry, Mom, it is your pumpkin, but Lesa does get some of the credit for the artistic cutting help!
This year Mom & Dad (Grandma & Grandpa) planned the date of the pumpkin cutting event perfectly. It coincided with our Ward Halloween Party / Trunk-or-Treating party. This way my Mom didn't have to make dinner, we just all went down to the church and had some soup and doughnuts and then headed out for some great Trunk-or-Treating fun! It was fun, right? But before we left to go down to the church we took pictures of the kids dressed up in their costumes.

Here is Phoenix as Minnie Mouse - It was really hard for us to get a picture of her because she just does not hold still. But this is the best one! She was a darling Minnie!

Then we have Erin as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. She just loved her ruby slippers... and her whole costume. Grandma Joan did a good job on the Lynch girl's costumes this year!

Then their is my astronaut, Dallon. Of course he couldn't just stand there for a picture, he has to make a goofy face and be different. However, I must say how much I love boy's costumes, they are so easy! Put this costume on and zip it up the front and we were good to go!

Marie was the fairy-tale princess. She definitely fits the part! She loves anything to do with princess'. She had a very pretty gown as well!

Carson was the grim reeper, I think. I never actually heard what he was, so I am assuming. So if I am wrong, sorry Carson. Once again, the boy's costumes are so much easier than the girls!
When we got down to the church for dinner I was surprised by how many adults in the ward dressed up... it must be that I'm pregnant and nothing really sounds fun, especially dressing up. I have a hard enough time finding something normal (can maternity clothes be considered normal?) to wear that fits, I can't imagine trying to find something clever that would fit.

After the kids made the rounds of getting candy at the Trunk-or-Treating, we packed up and hauled ourselves back over to Mom & Dad's and lit the now jack-o-lanterns. It was a good showing! Although some of the children tried so very hard to set themselves a-fire, there were no blazes and the night ended incident free, for the most part. Thank goodness!!!
